Registration Information

As a registered user you will be able to order online and have access to all of the benefits of our website, such as E-Subscriptions, insect news, special offers, etc. All of your personal information is kept completely confidential. We do not give out or sell contact information to individuals or corporations.

Domestic Orders

Currently our minimum domestic order requirement is $35.00 U.S. and does not include applicable sales tax (7.75%) or shipping/handling costs. Your order is automatically insured up to $100.00 if shipped by UPS. We apply a $1.00 U.S. Fish and Wildlife Inspection Fee to all domestic orders. All orders usually ship within 5 business days (U.S. orders only) from the time they are received. Please allow more time during the months of November and December due to the holiday rush. If you have special requirements for your order or need it by a certain date, please be sure to note that in the "Comments" section when finalizing your order. We will contact you if special arrangements need to be made. Orders can be rushed and sent within 24 hours upon request. A $15.00 rush charge will be applied in addition to applicable shipping charges for rushed orders. All specimens are A1 males unless noted otherwise. Antennae are not guaranteed on specimens under $10.00 U.S., although most specimens have their antennae. If you must have antennae on your specimens please note that in the comments section when finalizing your order. Requiring antennae may limit the specimens we have for you.

Foreign Orders

Currently, our minimum foreign order requirement is $100.00. This amount is subject to change without notice. Foreign orders are charged a $55.00 US Fish and Wildlife Export Fee. The entire $55.00 export fee goes directly to the US Fish and Wildlife Department. Our preferred method of shipping is Global Priority. The preferred payment method is credit card (visa/mastercard, American Express), however we do take cashiers checks and western union.

Spread Insects

We are now offering spread butterflies and moths! These items are currently available in limited quantity and variety. All spread insects are A1 condition and antennae are guaranteed except on a few species whose antennae are too fragile to ship spread. In this case it will be noted in the description area of the insect listing. Full data is provided.
As new items are available spread, they will be posted on the home page. Eventually we will be offering other insect orders such as beetles, walking sticks, cicadas, etc. There is no discount available for spread insects, regardless of quantity, at this time. Spread insects come flat and ready for pinning or display work. Spread insects cannot be returned if opened. Please see our return policy for further information on returning specimens. We do not do custom spreading. Insects available spread are only those listed and indicating "Spread" after the name.

Insect Quality

All insects are A1 quality unless otherwise noted. This means that there are no chips, splits or deep scratches in the wings. It should be a perfect or nearly perfect specimen. Antennae are not guaranteed on any insect less than $10.00 in value, except for Spread insects. Complete quality definitions are as follows:

A1 Quality
Perfect or nearly perfect specimen. No chips, splits or deep scratches. Antennae may be off, though most specimen antennae are intact.

A- Quality
Minor defects. Range of damage is small chips, splits, smudges, scratches, antennae off (on more expensive specimens), etc. May be one or all combined on the specimen. Usually this grade does not require repair and is very good for commercial artwork.

A2 Quality
Major defects. May have large chips, splits, smudges, stains, be hollow, congenital defects, etc. These specimens usually require repair.

B Quality
These should be used for repair parts only. Specimen is very damaged. May be smashed, have parasite damage, a wing missing, severe congenital defects, etc.

Ordering Insects By Photo Only

If you are not the quintessential entomologist, no problem! If you wish to order only by photos, please choose the "photo matrix" option after you have run your search and the results appear. If at any time you wish to return to the text version of your results please click the matrix mode. The website will allow you to jump between both modes as needed. Many of our insects are photographed, and we will be adding new photographs regularly. We have brought you the highest quality, digital images of our insects. We do ask for your cooperation in not copying or illegally distributing any of the images/photos that you view. We do occasionally authorize noncommercial organizations to use our photos. If you are interested in any photo please contact the webmaster to find out more.

Shipping Rates and Requirements

The preferred shipping method is UPS but we offer USPS Priority Mail as well. Both methods are traceable via the Internet. Shipping rates are provided during the order finalization process. If you need to know the status of your order, obtain a tracking number or a copy of a previous order, please see your account. All orders and tracking information can be found there. The computer will give you an estimated shipping amount based on a percentage of the value of your order - but this is not always accurate. Below are the minimum shipping rates for each service. If you wish to know the exact amount for shipping prior to your credit card being charged please email us.

Payment Options

If you are placing an order through our online shopping system for the first time, please note that the total that is stated on your checkout invoice is not your actual total. It is an estimate due to shipping costs. If you would like an exact total given to you before your card is charged, please note it in the comments section during the finalization of your order. All orders are usually shipped within three (3) business days (domestic orders only) from the time they are received. Please allow more time during the months of November and December due to the holiday rush. We accept all forms of payment, including visa/mastercard, american express, cashiers check, money order, travelers checks, personal check, etc. If paying by any method other than credit card PLEASE DO NOT mail your payment until you receive an official total by email or phone. This is due to the shipping rates given by the computer at the time ofd order are only estimates. Actual shipping rates are detemined by weight. For more info please see the "Shipping Rates and Requirements" section of this page. Please allow more time for your order to be processed if paying by personal check. All personal checks must clear through the bank before the order will be shipped.

Price Lists

The Online Catalogue
Our Online Catalogue is our comprehensive price list of everything we currently carry, excluding damaged insects. Damaged insects are available at discounted prices and can be found on the A- List. The insects listed on the Online Catalogue are A1 (unless noted otherwise) with data.

The New Arrivals List
The New Arrivals List is a price list comprised of insects which are new or were previously out of stock and are now back in.

The Birdwings List
The Birdwings List is a price list comprised of Ornithoptera, Trogonoptera
and Troides genera. This entire group of insects is protected under Appendix II or III of C.I.T.E.S. All of our Birdwings are imported with legal C.I.T.E.S. permits and the permit number is included either on the specimen or your invoice. We recommend that you include the permit number on the data tag for your specimen. Also, if commercially selling any C.I.T.E.S. specimen be sure to provide the number to your customers.

The A- List
The A- List is a price list of our available damaged specimens at discounted prices. Damage ranges anywhere from small chips, splits, antennae off, etc. on A- specimens to large chips, splits, smudges, etc. on A2 specimens. B quality specimens should be used for repair parts only.

The Quantity List
The Quantity List is a price list of the butterflies and other kinds of insects which are generally available in large numbers. The quality is generally A1 and well suited for businesses and artists doing framing, decoration, artwork etc., where larger quantities are needed. This list is updated frequently.

E-Subscriptions

Subscriptions are free and are to update you with any new specimens or information concerning the list you have subscribed to. For example, if you subscribed to the Birdwings List you would be updated with any new shipments that have arrived for out of stock items, new specimens and pertaining information. Any special hybrids, offers, etc. would be solicited to our subscribers first before being listed on the website. Subscribe to one or all lists!

U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service

We are licensed by the US Fish and Wildlife Department and only offer insects which have been legally imported and "cleared" for sale by the US Fish and Wildlife Department. All C.I.T.E.S. material is imported legally and permit numbers are included either on the invoice or specimen. If you ever have any questions or concerns regarding this matter please feel free to call!

Order Tracking

All tracking information can be obtained in your account as well as all invoices and current order status. Tracking and other information will be saved in your account for a minimum of one year.

Your Account

If you are a registered user with Insect World you have a personal account that may be viewed at any time. Here you will find all of your personal contact and shipping information, credit card information and preferences. You also have the ability to send us special requests for items we do not currently carry, view/edit your wantlist, track recent orders and view/print all orders you have placed with Insect World within the past year.

Return Policy

Please adhere to the return policy for speedy refunds or exchanges!
Our return policy is as follows:

1. Never automatically return merchandise without contacting us first.
2. All claims must be made within 10 days of receipt of merchandise.
3. All merchandise must be returned to Insect World within 15 days of receipt in the original packaging. We will not be held liable for merchandise damaged in transit due to improper packaging by the purchaser.
4. Opened spread insects may not be returned at any time.

If Insect World is at fault we will either replace the merchandise or refund its value at our discretion.
